Miscellany is a paying outlet with a conviction that good writing deserves decent money. We invite submissions of fiction, criticism, review essays, journalism, illustrations, photography, and poetry.
Our prose tends to run between 1,500 and 6,000 words, but our preferences regarding length are flexible, and we’re happy to consider several shorter pieces together. In fiction, we look for a refusal to separate form and content—an attention to voice, syntax, style, and line. For criticism, essays, and journalism, we especially like narrow obsessions, careful analyses of surprising objects, the denial of high and low, and impasses rather than epiphanies.
We invite work written from and about places outside metropolitan axes; aesthetic experience happens around suburbia, two-lane forest roads, the middle of nowhere.
When submitting poetry, please include no more than five poems in a packet. Visual texts and art ought to be available as high-res Adobe-friendly files, but smaller files for initial review are acceptable. Please send submissions as attachments to editors@miscellanyjournal.com.
